State fire assistance has been authorized to support local firefighters working to contain the Antoine Creek Fire (also reported by the Bureau of Land Management as the Antoine 2 fire) northeast of Chelan in Chelan County.

Washington State Patrol Chief John Batiste authorized the mobilization of state firefighting resources on August 5, 2012 at 4:45 p.m. at the request of Chelan County Fire District #7.

The fire started at approximately 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 5, 2012; the fire’s cause is under investigation. As of 7:00 p.m. Monday the fire has grown to approximately 4000 acres. There are approximately 30 residences threatened by the fire. Level 1 evacuation notices are in place.

Mobilization Specialists from the Fire Protection Bureau have ordered six strike teams of wildland engines (30 engines) with water tenders (6 water tenders) to supplement the resources already fighting the fire.  A Type 2 Incident Management Team has been ordered to manage the fire and will arrive Monday at 2:00 p.m.

Chelan-The State Emergency Operations Center (EOC) at Camp Murray has been activated to Phase 2 to help coordinate assistance at the Antoine Creek Fire. Personnel from the Office of the State Fire Marshal will be on scene to coordinate dispatch of resources, and other State Fire Marshal personnel will staff the State EOC.

Under the mobilization plan, the Fire Protection Bureau will be coordinating the initial dispatch of firefighters, engine, water tenders, and helicopters. The State Fire Services Mobilization Plan is implemented to provide personnel, equipment and other resources from around the state  when wildfires exceed the firefighting capacity of local jurisdictions. More information about the Washington State Fire Service Mobilization Plan is available at http://www.wsp.wa.gov/fire/mobilization.htm .
