Carl Edward Brandt, “Pa Hat”, 82, of Rock Island passed away on Saturday evening, July 28, 2012.
He was born on September 12, 1929 on Hice’s Hill in Bridgeport, Washington to the late Howard Francis and Grace Mabel (Jackson) Brandt. He was raised on Pearl Hill east of Bridgeport. He attended school at the Del Rio School and went to work on the family wheat farm. He and Fern Stevens eloped with good friends Bud and Jeanette Rilette in attendance, to Waterville on September 29, 1950. They made their first home together on the farm on Pearl Hill then moved to various locations in WA and ID before 2010 to Rock Island. He worked as a City Superintendant for many of the cities they lived in and continued to farm as possible.
During the Civil Defense Era he was a Mid Point Operator for the National Service Network on his Ham Radio using the call numbers K7MCH.
He liked to walk and enjoyed talking to people and watching horses and roller skating. For the last 10 years his daily routine involved walking to the Link stop where he would get off at the Wenatchee Senior Center where he enjoyed meeting up with friends and telling stories. He is survived by daughter, Charleah Brandt, Rock Island, WA, grandchildren, Cheyenne Heflin, Wenatchee and Kody Brandt, Rock Island, great grandchildren; Locklen “K.C.” Heflin, and Owen Heflin, of Wenatchee, sister; Colleen Francis Brandt Anderson, Marysville, three nephews; Kelly Hesseltine, Spokane, Douglas Brandt, Moses Lake, Howard Anderson, Seattle and good friend Charles Smithson, Colville.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Fern, parents and brother, Cleo Brandt.
