Elmer Henry “Hank” Close, 75, a 39 year Quincy resident, passed away on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee, following an extended illness.
He was born on June 11, 1936 at Donald, Washington to the late Elmer Claude and Florence (Ewing) Close. He was raised in the Yakima Valley and following his schooling, he entered the U.S. Air Force. He served during the Korean Conflict and following his honorable discharge, returned to the Yakima Valley. He was married to Rachel Ruth Adams on June 30, 1958 at Wapato, Washington.
He received training as a Welder while in the military and following additional training, he became a Certified Welder. Together, they made many moves to Elmer’s job sites, prior to moving to Quincy in 1973. They have since made their home in Quincy.
Elmer was a longtime member of the Boiler Makers Union, Local # 104, a member of the Quincy Moose Lodge, the Quincy American Legion and the Ephrata Eagles Lodge.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Rachel R. Close, Quincy; one daughter and son-in-law, Candus & John Wade Friend, Ephrata; four grandchildren, Kami Lynnette Williams, Moses Lake, Mallory Cox, Long Beach, WA, Trista Friend, Seattle and Kyleigh Friend, Vancouver, WA; four great grandchildren, Brenton Campbell, Vancouver, WA, Sophia Vargas and Jordan Wade Vargas both of Moses Lake and Addisyn Cox, Long Beach, WA. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Edmond Riley Close and Terry Lee Close.
At his request, no services will be held. Arrangements are assisted by Heritage Memorial Chapel, East Wenatchee.
