EPHRATA, WA. This coming weekend, the community of Ephrata, led by the Ephrata Chamber of Commerce, opens the ninth annual Basin Summer Sounds; a two-day free music festival in downtown Ephrata featuring bands, beer and wine tasting, kids activities, , a car show, 3-on-3 basketball, and the Farmer’s Market.

The headline band Friday night is Vicci Martinez, and the Saturday finale is Bowling for Soup; but bands will be playing throughout both days in the downtown area. The music begins at 5:00pm Friday 20 July 2012 at the Courthouse Stage. Saturday the 21st will see the festival open at 8:00am at the Farmer’s Market in Sun Basin Plaza, and music at 11:30am on the Courthouse lawn. A classic car and cycle show, as well as kids activities, will take over Basin Street from 10:00am to 5:00pm Saturday.

As with every year, the festival will impact local traffic both Friday and Saturday. Maps of the DOT approved road closures will be printed in two issues of the Grant County Journal and are available from the City’s website. A truck detour route is in effect from Friday morning through the end of the festival Saturday night. Copies of the detour map are attached, on the City’s website, and are available from the Odessa Union office in Ephrata.

Due to the high volume of traffic on Basin Street during Saturday afternoon, local residents are urged to
avoid driving downtown, walk in, and enjoy the festival.

This year’s festival does coincide with three street construction projects. Drivers will need to follow the marked detour routes and not cross into closed areas. Violating the detour routes will only lead to
frustration and added delays.

A robust security and customer service presence will be on-site all weekend for the festival. Members of the Washington State Patrol, Grant County Sheriff’s Office, Ephrata Police Department, and other specialized resources will look after surveillance and law-enforcement concerns. American Medical Response, Grant County Fire District-13, Ephrata Fire Department, and other agencies under mutual aid, will attend to medical and emergency needs. Special provisions are also on-site for the swift evaluation and processing of any disorderly and/or intoxicated guests. Ephrata Public Works personnel will be providing traffic, parking guidance, and neighborhood watch functions. Experienced private security
personnel, combined with local volunteers, will assist guests with customer service. Our goal in utilizing so many security resources is to maintain a safe, family-friendly atmosphere throughout the festival weekend.

Come and enjoy our community, with over 21-hours of free music, at the 2012 Basin Summer Sounds.
