(Winthrop, WA) Firefighters from the Winthrop and Twisp Stations responded to a reported structure fire Saturday, on East Chewuck Road. The tones alerted firefighters at 1:30 pm and Winthrop Engine 641 was on the scene in less than 16 minutes. Lt. Mark Crum and Capt. Brian Colin quickly entered the home where black smoke was billowing from doors and windows. The fire was confined to the back bedroom/bathroom. In all 14 volunteer firefighters and 3 career staff responded with 5 trucks. Aero Methow Rescue Service and the Forest Service also responded to help save the home.
Chief Don Waller was first on scene. “This is a good time to remind everyone to get your address sign where responders can see the numbers, even at night,” he stated. “Initially, I drove right past because there wasn’t an address posted anywhere.”
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
