Gertrude Mary “Gertie” Jewett

April 24, 1941 ~ May 21, 2012

Gertie Jewett, 71, died peacefully at home, surrounded by her family. She was born in Weaverville, CA to Ralph and Gertrude Patton and grew up in Hayfork, CA. She later moved to Washington State, where she met, fell in love and married Frank Jewett. She dedicated her life to being a supportive and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She always went above and beyond when it came to loving her family and friends. Gertie volunteered for and served on the Malaga Counsel, was a Three Lakes Board Member, and volunteered for the Together For Drug Free Youth program. She served as the President of the Lady Elks for many years, where she organized the “Family Dances” open to the public with live Country Music at the Elks Lodge to provide families in our community with safe, drug-free family recreation. A big part of Gertie’s life was devoted to the Spurs and Spokes Handicap Horseback riding program, where she was President of the Board until recently.

She is survived by her brother, Raymond Patton of Hayfork, CA; her husband, Frank Jewett; her daughters, Navonne Jewett and Charlene Jewett; granddaughter, Megan Crosier; stepsons, Donavon Jewett and James Jewett; stepdaughters, Jolene Jewett, Leanne Jewett and Theresa Simer; grandsons, Joseph Jewett, Joshua Jewett, Jarod Jewett, Matthew Jewett, Brian Simer, Cory Simer and Lane Zilliox; nieces and nephews in Oregon and California; and her longtime friend, Kathy Gates.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 31, 2012, at Holy Apostles Catholic Church, 1315 8th Street NE, East Wenatchee, with a reception following at the church. It is the family’s request that donations, in lieu of flowers, be made to the Spurs and Spokes Handicap Horseback Riding Program at WSU Extension, Chelan County, 400 Washington Street, Wenatchee, WA 98801 or by calling 509-667-6540. Arrangements are by Telford’s Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.

Gertie Jewett (Mom/Grandma)… you are dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
