(Ephrata, WA) Grant County Sheriff Tom Jones is pleased to provide OffenderWatch for the citizens of Grant County. The information is meant to inform the public about sex offenders in our community. To view basic information on offenders in your area visit http://www.sheriffalerts.com/wa/grant.

The Grant County Sheriff’s Office manages between 300 and 400 registered sex offenders. State law allows us to provide basic information on Level 2 (classified as less likely to re-offend) and Level 3 (likely to reoffend) sex offenders. OffenderWatch allows the public to view basic information on registered sex offenders, register for e-mail alerts and receive preventative and educational information. An online presentation is available to help viewers learn more about this free community program.

Information about registered sex offenders has not been made available for the public to take any action against any individual. There is a penalty for harassing, intimidating or threatening sex offenders. Abuse of information provided through the sex offender notification process, in order to intimidate, harass or threaten registered sex offenders, will result in an investigation and the filing of criminal charges against the perpetrators. Such abuse could potentially end law enforcement’s ability to conduct community notifications. The only person who “wins” if community notification is halted is the registered sex offender, since sexual offenders derive their power through secrecy.

For further information on registered sex offenders in Grant County, contact Deputy Jay Atwood at the Sheriff’s Sex Offender Tracking Unit, 509-754-2011 ext. 639, [email protected].
