Contributions from PUD customers help all year long, but they mean even more during the holidays as families struggle with winter heating bills. All donations received by the PUD go to the Chelan-Douglas Community Action Council, which then makes sure the donations are distributed to households where there is a documented need.
In 2011, donations to Helping Hand totaled $17,586 and were used to help 206 families with their electric bill. Through October of this year, 170 households have received assistance, averaging about $86 per family, said Scot Erickson, Customer Accounting supervisor.
Making a donation is as simple as checking the box marked “Helping Hand Donation” on your PUD bill and adding a few extra dollars to your payment. Customers signed up for paperless billing via Powerpay can add to one-time or auto-deduct payments. You can also enroll on the Web to make a monthly contribution or call the PUD at 661-8002 to donate.
It’s easy to offer a helping hand, and hundreds of local families will appreciate it.
