Joy H. Horner, 89, a Wenatchee Valley resident for nearly 70 years, passed away on Saturday morning, July 14, 2012 at Blossom Valley Memory Care Center in Wenatchee.
She was born on June 14, 1923 at Gid, Arkansas to Grant and Ethel (Kinsey) Moser. She grew up in Gid and attended school in Melbourne, Arkansas. In 1941, when she was 18, she made the move with her entire family to Wenatchee.
Joy went to work at Keokuk in Rock Island, where she worked as a Fork Lift Operator. At the beginning of W.W.II in 1942, she joined the war effort and worked at Boeing up through 1943. She was married to John James Holloway and they had three children. She was later married to Arthur Sherman Horner in 1951. They made their home together in East Wenatchee.
Joy returned to the workforce and worked packing and sorting fruit for Northern Fruit Company for many years. She retired in 1985. In February of 1988, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur. She continued to make her home in East Wenatchee until moving to Blossom Valley in 2006.
She was a longtime member of the Wenatchee Free Methodist Church where in years past she had been actively involved as a Sunday School Teacher and as a Church Camp Cook.
She enjoyed crafts, especially wall floral arrangements and her flower gardens.
She is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Victor John “Vic” & Sue Horner, Wenatchee, Michael Wayne “Mike” & Pamela Horner, Shelton, WA and Richard Grant “Rich” Horner, Corona, CA; one Daughter and her longtime companion, Deborah Rose Horner and Lowell Roberts, both of East Wenatchee; 10 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur, one daughter, Lisa Joy Horner on Jan. 6, 2012, one sister, Helen Warnett and three brothers, Homer Moser, Pat Moser and John Moser.
A Family Graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 21st at 9:30 a.m. in Evergreen Memorial Park, East Wenatchee, followed by a Commemoration Service at the Wenatchee Free Methodist Church at 11:30 a.m. with Pastor Les Krober officiating.
