Mansfield man dies after fatal ATV accident on Monday
(Mansfield, WA) On Monday June 11th at 1:08 PM, Douglas County deputies were informed on an emergency medical call in the area of the 1400 block of County Road “C” NW, in the Mansfield area. When a deputy arrived, Mansfield ambulance personnel were providing advanced life support to Rhett J. Wall, 64, of Mansfield, in a field about 300 yards away from the residence at that location.
Investigation by the deputy revealed that the Wall had been riding a 2009 Honda TRX500 four-wheeler ATV up a slope on private property when the vehicle apparently lost traction. The front end of the ATV came off the ground and rolled backwards landing on top on the victim as it rolled over. Rhett fell off at that point and the ATV ultimately landed on its wheels and continued rolling down the slope about another 44 feet before stopping.
Wall was transported to Lake Chelan Community Hospital by Mansfield Ambulance where he died. He appeared to have suffered internal injuries when the vehicle landed on top of him. It does not appear that alcohol or drugs were a factor in this incident. The deputy indicated that Wall was apparently not wearing a helmet.
