Marie Elizabeth Jones, 74, a longtime Wenatchee resident, passed away on Friday, August 3, 2012.
She was born on January 11, 1938 in Pekin, IL to Kenneth and Edith (Haistings) Dick. She graduated from Wenatchee High School in 1956 and a week later married her love of 55 years, Gene Jones. They made their first home in Moses Lake, Washington where Gene was stationed at Larson Airforce Base. They moved to Wenatchee in 1960 when Gene was discharged and the couple soon welcomed children Sherry and Curtis. While the children were very young Marie entered the Wenatchee Valley College RN program while Gene stayed home with the children. After graduating from the nursing program she worked for many years with Ludwig, Ross and Zook M.D.s, and later as an office manager for Dr. Porter, Dr. Kopfer and Dr. Feldman. Marie and Gene later added to their family and adopted a son, Brice.
Marie was a very involved with her children’s activities as they were growing up. When her son Curt played on the Wenatchee High School Football team Marie was known as “Taco Momma,” a name she acquired when it became tradition for the entire team to come to their home after every game for a taco feast. One of Marie’s favorite things to do was spend the day in the kitchen, Checkerboard cookies, Black Bottom cupcakes and homemade fried chicken were just a few of her signature dishes that were loved by all. Spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren was one of her greatest joys. There was never an event in their lives that she wasn’t a part of. Marie touched the lives of many people with her kind, compassionate and giving spirit.
She is survived by son, Brice (Michelle) Jones, Arlington, WA; daughter in-law, Cindy (Kevin) Lee, East Wenatchee, WA; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Sherry Jones in 1973, son, Curtis Jones in 2001 and husband, Gene in March 2012.
