Marlyn Mae (Bainard) Hoffmann
Marlyn Mae Bainard was born in Puyallup Washington, May 10, 1932, to George and Alma (Cuatt) Bainard and raised on Stemilt Hill. While attending school, she was responsible for helping out on the farm, working in the orchard and raising her younger brothers and sisters. In her junior year of high school, she was crowned Miss Stemilt Hill, riding in the Apple Blossom parade. After high school she and a friend set out to see America, traveling throughout the United States selling magazines. She married Robert Fox in 1954 and moved to Alaska where she worked at Elmendorf Air base. Years later she returned to the Wenatchee Valley and married John Holzheimer in 1959. They lived in Rock island where she served on the City Council, was Treasurer of the PTA and worked part-time at the Rock Island Post Office before starting her 23 year career at the Wenatchee Post Office. She was the face at the front counter for many, many years. She married Warren Hoffmann in 1988. Life after retirement did not slow her down. She loved to travel and she and her husband were always on the go, whether it was flying to New York to see the opening of Cats, cruising the Panama Canal or making numerous trips to Hawaii and the ocean. She volunteered at Central Washington Hospital and Mobile Meals. She also treasured her friends at the Senior Center where she ate lunch every day for several years. Her passion was baking, decorating cakes and making fancy chocolate candies and mints. She was a longtime member of the Stemilt Hill Ladies Club, FOE #204, NARFE, Cake & Candy Club, Appleland Promenaders, and River Rounder’s round dance club.
She is survived by her children Victoria (Bart) Fox-Miller, Michael Fox, Cathy (John) Whitehorn, John (Sun) Holzheimer, and Lisa (Kirk) Johnson; grandchildren Breane (John) Kays, Tyler Whitehorn, Colin & Rachel Miller, Crystal Fox and Alex Holzheimer; great granddaughters Monica Mendoza and Addyson & Lily Kays; siblings Jim Bainard, George Bainard Jr., Marge Henkel and Marie Ross. She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands Robert, John and Warren, her brothers Gerald, Walter, Eugene (Gene), and Bill Bainard, and sisters Marian (Till) Walton, Louella Heinz, and Josephine Reeves.
