Mary Maxine (Roe) Olsen

Mary Maxine (Roe) Olsen was born May 27, 1918, in Erie, KS and passed away May 28, 2012, in Wenatchee, WA. Mary and her three brothers and two sisters were raised by their parents, Emmett Joseph Roe and Mary Olive (Mulrenin) Roe in Wichita, KS. Mary graduated from St. Mary’s High School, Wichita, KS in 1936. She then attended Wichita Business School in Wichita, KS for two years. Mary met the love of her life, Donald Henry Olsen, in Wichita, KS, early 1939. They married October 8, 1939, in McPherson, KS. Don and Mary raised their three children in Wichita, KS: Sharon Marie (Olsen) Sackman, Donald Henry Olsen Jr. and Diane Roe (Olsen) Leonard. Mary was employed by an electrical company in Wichita and Don with Boeing. In 1958, Don transferred to the Boeing plant in Renton, WA. They made their home in Bellevue, WA, where Mary worked for the Bellevue Water District and retired in 1983. Mary had a love for reading, gardening, decorating and fashion. Mary was a devout Catholic. Her home church was Holy Family in Kirkland, WA. Her greatest love was her family. She will be sorely missed by her grandchildren: Nancy Ann and Sherri Lynn Sackman, Veronica Maxine (Olsen) Smith and Tiffany Colleen Olsen, Jennifer Roe Foulkes, and Brenda Rae and Kyle Blaine Leonard; and her great-grandchildren: Emily Sharon Baughman, Summer Rae Leonard-Haugen, Ethan Scott, Zachary James and Joshua Kacy Leonard.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Don; her parents; and her five siblings. She is survived by her three children and their spouses, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
We want to thank Carol Levi and her staff of caregivers at Aaron Adult Family Homes, for the caring, kindness and comfort given to Mom these past few years. Also, thank you to Central Washington Hospital, Home Care and Hospice for your assistance with Mom’s care and our family needs in understanding the life ending process.
There will be a Private Family Memorial Service held at a later date. Mary will be laid to rest next to her husband, Don, in the San Juan Islands, Lopez Union Cemetery, Lopez Island, WA.
