(Wenatchee, WA) Just in time for Earth Day, Chelan County PUD is offering a menu of money-saving options for upgrading the energy efficiency and comfort of customers’ homes. New rebates on appliances, free manufactured home duct sealing and free refrigerator removal with a $30 incentive are among the choices.

Appliance (and other) rebates

Rebates ranging from $25 to $500 are available on new energy-efficient appliances including refrigerators, freezers, clothes washers, water heaters and heat pump water heaters. All Energy Star-rated fridges, freezers and clothes washers are eligible. Rebate amounts vary depending on the efficiency of the appliance; the higher the efficiency, the higher the rebate.

Appliance rebate details are here.

Rebates of $25 each are also available for Energy Star LED down light retrofit kits. These kits replace incandescent recessed or “can” lights and can be purchased for as little as $35 or $40, making the customer’s final cost only about $10 to $15.

Rebates of $115 are being offered on electronic-controlled thermostats for baseboard or other zonal heat. Customers must be willing to upgrade all thermostats in the home in order to qualify.

Rebate checks are issued within 7 to 10 business days. Customers also can elect to redeem their rebates immediately using the new Tango card, which provides gift cards to a choice of 17 major retailers. Customers can also choose to donate the rebate to a choice of eight charities, or even give it to family or friends.

Two new free services are on the menu: manufactured home duct sealing and refrigerator recycling/rebates.

Manufactured home duct sealing

Ductwork in a typical manufactured home leaks up to 30 percent of heated air into the crawl space. Chelan County PUD has contracted with e-Star Northwest to inspect and seal leaks. This service is available at no cost to owners and tenants of manufactured homes in Chelan County using electric forced air furnaces or heat pumps. To schedule an appointment with a contractor, call (509) 860-5045.

Refrigerator recycling

Chelan County PUD is working with JACO Environmental to pick up and recycle old refrigerators and freezers for free. Customers who participate will receive a $30 rebate. The refrigerator or freezer must be clean, empty, defrosted, and in working condition and be 10 to 30 cubic feet in size. The program is open to both homes and businesses as long as the size requirement is met. Customers can schedule an appointment for pickup through the Jaco website or by calling toll-free (877) 577-0510.

Ductless heat pumps

The PUD’s ductless heat pump program – originally designed for homes with electric baseboard and wall heat – has been expanded to included site-built and manufactured homes with electric forced-air furnaces. A rebate of $750 is available per household.

Windows and insulation

The popular windows and insulation program continues through 2013 with rebate amounts doubled from a year ago. Upgrade your windows and earn $6 per square foot. Add insulation and get 50 cents per square foot.

Conservation staff will be at the Earth Day fairs in Chelan on April 20 and Leavenworth on April 21 with additional information about products and programs.
