July 5, 2012

(Wenatchee, WA) The 250-acre Navarre fire is burning in grass, brush and pockets of timber in the Navarre Coulee area, approximately 8 miles north of the town of Entiat.  Road closures and evacuations are in effect.

One residence in the Johnson Creek area, a mile west of the fire, is under a Level 3 evacuation notice and has been evacuated.  Thirteen other residences and cabins in the Johnson Creek area are under a Level 2 evacuation order, which means that they must be prepared to leave at a moment’s notice.   Nineteen other residences along Navarre Coulee Road have been warned that a fire is in the area and should monitor local media outlets for information.  No structures have burned.

Throughout the afternoon, three helicopters dropped water on the fire.  Approximately 75 personnel from Washington State Department of Natural Resources, Forest Service, and Chelan County Rural Fire Districts are fighting the fire.

A Type 3 Incident Command Team will be taking control of firefighting efforts on Friday morning.
