Wardell, a former private practice attorney and Superior Court judge in Chelan and Douglas counties before joining the PUD as general counsel in 1998, was chosen to receive the award based on her outstanding commitment to supporting her community with time and efforts that exemplify public power’s involvement in community life.
The nomination submitted by General Manager John Janney and board President Norm Gutzwiler said Wardell, “has blazed trails for business and professional women and has worked hard for the underprivileged in Chelan and Douglas counties ever since she came to Wenatchee in 1983 to practice law.”
During Wardell’s time on the Superior Court bench, she was instrumental in starting a Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) program to assist children touched by the legal system. The program is going strong today, and Wardell continues to support it enthusiastically.
Other community activities for Wardell include coaching youth soccer and basketball teams, now serving on the board of Central Washington Hospital Foundation, supporting United Way as a committee co-chair to find ways to increase community donations and formerly serving on the YMCA Board of Directors.
Wardell received a plaque, and the PUDs Association will make a $250 contribution to a local charity of Wardell’s choice.
