Raymond E. “ Ray” Witten, 78, a lifelong Central Washington resident and 57 year Wenatchee area resident, passed away on Friday June 1, 2012 at Eastern Washington State Hospital in Medical Lake.
He was born on June 27, 1933 at Waterville, Washington to the late John A. and Emma (Prange) Witten. He was raised educated in Waterville, graduating with the class of 1951. He continued his education at Wenatchee Valley College prior to entering the U.S. Army in 1953 and serving during the Korean Conflict. He received his honorable discharge in 1955 and returned to make his home in Wenatchee briefly before making his home in East Wenatchee.
Ray worked as a Butcher and later as the Manager of the Curtis Thriftway grocery store in East Wenatchee for many years. He later worked for KPQ in radio advertising sales and briefly worked as a car salesman for Ted Finkbeiner Motors. He was elected as a Douglas County Sewer District Commissioner and remained in that position until the fall of 2011.
He was a longtime active member of the Applearians.
He is survived by two daughters, Jeanne (Mike) Everhart, East Wenatchee and Elizabeth “Beth” (John) Neff, East Wenatchee; one sister, Louise Mahugh, Wenatchee; 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Eastmont Baptist Church in East Wenatchee, (date and time will be announced in the Tuesday edition of The Wenatchee World). Arrangements are in the care of Heritage Memorial Chapel, East Wenatchee.l
