(Entiat, WA) Sheriff  Brian Burnett reports a search and rescue team was deployed Sunday evening to reach an ill hiker along the North Fork Trail about 30 miles west of Entiat adjacent to the North Fork of the Entiat River.  At 5:06pm, the USFS dispatch center received word from the Silver Falls campground host that a subject had hiked out to the North Fork Trailhead to report a female hiker was suffering from severe abdominal pain approximately 5 miles up the trail. The campground notified emergency personnel and eventually hiked up the trail to the patient’s location so updates could be relayed via radio. Shella A. Knoll, 47, of Orting, WA had continued hiking with her husband to the 2 mile mark on the trail, but could not continue from that point.  The area is very remote and was only accessible via foot, horseback, or motorcycle.

Search and rescue coordinators deployed a team consisting of Sheriff’s Office deputies, SAR volunteers, and a Ballard Ambulance paramedic via off-road motorcycles.  Knoll was located, stabilized by 8:30pm and then transported out to the trailhead.   Knoll was taken via ambulance to Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee.   Her current condition is not known.  Knoll’s husband hiked out to the trailhead with the campground host.
