October 9, 2012

Evacuations: The evacuation level for Paschal Sherman Indian School (PSIS) and residents located near St. Mary’s Mission is now reduced to a Level 1. School officials are evaluating when to open the school. Residents along Haley Creek Road remain at a Level 2 evacuation. Currently, residents along Moomaw Road, Kartar Valley, and Timentwa Flats remain at a Level 1. Road Closures: Starting today at noon, there will no longer be any road closures. Mission Road opened at 8:00 a.m. Columbia River Road will open to through traffic at noon

Current Situation: Yesterday, firefighting efforts solidified existing containment lines. Mop up will continue to secure the fireline based on the type of fuels and terrain. Portions of the eastern fire perimeter contain rocky steep terrain making line construction a challenge. Fire resources have been reallocated to the more complex area in the eastern side of the fire from other locations. Public Meeting: There is a public meeting with fire managers today at 6:00 p.m. at the East Omak Community Center, 601 Benton Street in Omak. At this meeting, the current fire status will be presented and listening posts will be available for community members to ask questions.
