(Wenatchee, WA) Installing 95-foot poles to carry lines that will connect Chelan PUD’s new Okanogan Avenue Substation in Wenatchee to the power grid will require road closures and traffic detours next Tuesday and Wednesday.

A section of Crawford Street between Cascade and Kittitas streets will be closed to traffic from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9. Okanogan Avenue will be closed between Crawford and Circle streets, with some access for residents and school buses, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., on Wednesday, April 10.

PUD employees have notified neighbors, the school district and law enforcement about the road closures. Flaggers and PUD staff will escort school buses and residents.

Two of the 95-foot laminated poles will be installed on Crawford Street and two on Okanogan Avenue as one of the steps in construction of the substation, which started in June 2012. A contractor will use a mobile crane to lift and position the poles and PUD line crews will install them. Plans are to energize the substation later this year after the transmission line work is finished.
