Grand Coulee- A Canadian smelter operator will be decided by a federal judge to see if they are subject to the U.S. Superfund law. Teck Metals Ltd. is based in Vancouver, British Columbia and has been dumping toxins in the Columbia for almost 50 years. Teck contends it is not subject to U.S. laws. The Colville Indian tribe and the State of Washington have sued the company and should now pay to clean it up. Teck’s smelter is 10 miles north of the U.S. border discharged mining waste directly into the river.
