Two die in airplane crash near Waterville on Thursday

(Waterville, WA) On November 8th at 12 at approximately 9:00 AM the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a light plane crash near Waterville.  The location was near the intersection of Rd. 8 NW and Rd. E NW.  Deputies, the Waterville ambulance, and Douglas Fire District #1 responded to the scene.  Rescue crews found that a small open cockpit aircraft with two crew members had crashed in an open field.

Both person died in the crash.   A witness at the scene told investigators he observed the plane spiraling downward before impacting in the field.  Information currently is that the open cockpit aircraft had taken off from the Chelan Airport and was on a training flight before the accident.  The FAA and NTSB was contacted and will be continuing the investigation.   Fire Chief Dale Jordan of Douglas County Fire District #1 stated there was no fire and no significant fuel spillage.  The deseased victims of the crash were Robert C Lyons, 58 of Chelan and Jason L Escapule, 39 of Princeton, ID.
