Virginia Z. Whittington, 93, a East Wenatchee resident and former longtime Twin Lakes-Inchelium area resident, passed away on June 21, 2012 at Soth’s Adult Family Home in East Wenatchee.
She was born on March 5, 1919 at Yakima, Washington to the late George and Carrie (Fisher) O’Neil. She attended school through the 5th grade at Buena, before her family moved to a dairy farm in Toppenish and she continued her education there. She graduated from the Toppenish High School in 1937. She later moved to Seattle, where she met and was later married to Allen Whittington. Following his honorable discharge from the Navy, they returned to make their home in Toppenish.
Virginia went to work at the Del Monte Cannery in Toppenish and worked as Switchboard Operator and later Executive Secretary for a total of 21 years. In the early 1980’s, they moved to make their summer home at Twin Lakes near Inchelium, their retirement home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold “Allen” Whittington in 1987. She continued to make her home at Twin Lakes until moving to East Wenatchee in 2008.
When Virginia was in her late 60’s, she became a Watercolor Artist and her love of flowers along with her painting talents made her become a well regarded Artist.
She was a former longtime member of St. Michael’s Mission in Inchelium and attended Holy Apostles Catholic Church in East Wenatchee.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Terry & Timothy “Tim” Arens, East Wenatchee; one sister, Peggy Champagne, Portland, OR; one brother and sister-in-law, Pastor Gail & Ruth Ann O’Neil, Mount Vernon, WA and five grandchildren, Kim Overton, Snohomish, WA, Pam Nice, Bandon, OR, Lynette Arens, Lynnwood, WA, Weston W. Whittington M.D., Phoenix, AZ and Brandon Whittington, Eugene, OR. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold “Allen” Whittington and one son, Wayne Wesley Whittington in 2002.
