(Leavenworth, WA) Sheriff Brian Burnett report s a 40yoa female was rescued from the Wenatchee River in Leavenworth, WA on Saturday (07/21/2012) afternoon after falling off of a inner tube.  RIVERCOM dispatch began receiving 911 calls at 1:11pm  from witnesses in the area of Blackbird Island along the southern shore of the river reporting a female struggling in the water.  Witnesses reported the female subject was going under the current as she was swept downriver.  As deputies, fire personnel and EMS responded, witnesses alerted a group of rafters passing through the same area of the situation.  The rafters eventually located the subject holding onto rocks along the west shore of the river just south of, and under  the Highway 2 bridge.

Sarah Garcia, 39, of Montesano, WA was removed from the water by the rafters and emergency responders.  She was found to be somewhat hypothermic and not completely responsive..  Garcia was transported by Cascade Ambulance to Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee.  She was treated and later released Saturday afternoon.

It was determined by deputies that Garcia had been floating the river with friends on an inner tube when she fell into the water and struggled in the water to reach shore.  Garcia was not wearing any type of personal flotation device.

Authorities wish to remind the public that the Wenatchee River remains high with a very strong current and many areas of rapids.  Wearing a personal flotation device is strongly advised for all tubers, rafters, and kayakers.
