EPHRATA, WA. – At approximately 9:45am Saturday, June 22nd, a Burlington Northern train struck and killed a pedestrian near the Ephrata Amtrak Station. No other persons were affected, and the train did not derail.
An investigation is underway by Ephrata Police, the Grant County Coroner, and Burlington Northern Police.
Due to the halted train and the investigation, both local railroad crossings are currently closed at Division Street and Nat Washington Way. Ephrata Public Works is detouring traffic around the area. There is no estimate when the detour will be lifted.

Grant County Coroner Craig Morrison last night identified the woman struck and killed by a train Saturday morning June 22 in Ephrata as Cristina Celeste Hernandez, age 25 of Ephrata.
The manner of death is suicide.
